Churn rate calculator
Churn is the share of customers you lose in a period: customers lost divided by customers at the start. For a quarter or a year, the calculator also gives the monthly rate.
The formula
Churn = customers lost ÷ customers at the start
Worked example: 3.0% a month
The example is a UK software company in one month: £50,000 of revenue excluding VAT, 400 customers and £180,000 in the bank.
- 12 lost ÷ 400 at the start = 3.0%

How to read your result
Small monthly numbers add up: 3% a month means keeping about 69 of every 100 customers after a year.
Watch out for
Divide by customers at the start of the period, not the end, and say how you count new customers who leave in the same month.
