Runway calculator
Runway is how many months the business can run before the cash runs out: cash in the bank divided by net burn a month, if the burn stays the same.
The formula
Runway = cash in the bank ÷ net burn a month
Worked example: 20 months
The example is a UK software company in one month: £50,000 of revenue excluding VAT, 400 customers and £180,000 in the bank.
- £180,000 ÷ £9,000 net burn a month = 20.0 months
Try it with your numbers
Work out your runway
Until you type a figure, the results show an example business. Fill in only what you know: from then on every result uses your figures alone, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

How to read your result
Raising a round takes months, so the result shows when to start if fundraising takes six. For growth and hiring plans, the month-by-month runway calculator in this section goes further.
Watch out for
Runway assumes today's burn. Planned hires make it shorter, and growing revenue makes it longer.
