Cambridge Photon Technology (CPT), a spin-out from University of Cambridge, has raised £1.56 million in its latest funding round in order to accelerate the deployment of its photon-multiplier solar technology. The round is made up of £926,000 equity investment and a £630,000 grant from the Innovate UK Investor Partnerships: Clean Energy & Climate Technologies programme.

The technology developed by CPT enables existing silicon solar panels to generate additional electricity by converting previously wasted high-energy photons into infrared photons that the silicon can absorb. This “drop-in” solution is designed to fit within standard solar modules without the need for redesigning the module or changing manufacturing lines, and can boost output by up to 15 per cent.
