Zomato Updated App Allows You Order Online

Zomato, the online restaurant discovery platform with presence in over 22 countries, has started to offer its own food delivery service, starting from Delhi NCR. The service is expected to expand to Mumbai and Bangalore soon. Zomato has been promising to expand into a number of different areas, including online ordering, table bookings, and cashless payments, and a fresh update to the app shows that it has finally advanced it to next level.

chicken curryFor each order placed via its service, Zomato will charge 7.5% to 15% commission from the restaurant. Users will have to give rating compulsorily as the commission structure is based on user ratings. For a top star rating, Zomato will charge the restaurant a commission of 7.5% and for bottom star rating restaurant, Zomato will be charging 15% per order. Rating stands from 1 to 5, in which 5 being top level.

Zomato has not officially confirmed the news yet, but Android app release notes shows “Introducing Online Ordering feature.” Similarly, the iOS app update also has Online Ordering in the release notes, along with Apple Watch support. On iTunes, it states that the feature is currently available in Delhi NCR, with Bangalore, Mumbai, and more cities on the way, but on Android it only mentions Delhi NCR.

Last week, Goyal also tweeted a picture of stacks of iPads, which will be deployed at partner restaurants for the online ordering, which tells us a little bit more about the logistics that Zomato will be employing to manage its delivery service.Capture

When checked on the app, there was a new ‘+’ button in keeping with Google’s Material Design. Tapping the button gives you various options – you can check in, write a review, upload a photo, or, order online. Tapping on order online lets you see list of restaurants which are able to deliver food to in your area, Also, the only payment option available right now is Cash on Delivery, which might also not suit all users. Cashless payments will be the next big step for Zomato.
