Zomato partners with Delhivery, Pickingo, and Grab India for home delivery

Restaurant search and discovery app Zomato on Tuesday said it has entered the last-mile delivery business with Zomato Order by enabling restaurants across India to deliver food to a customer’s home.

In couple of tweets Zomato Founder & CEO , Deepinder Goyal wrote,

“Every restaurant packs food if you want to take it home, but they do not indulge in home delivery as they may have a shortage of manpower. We have now tied up with Delhivery, Grab and Pickingo to get on board all such restaurants that do not typically do home delivery,” says Zomato, Founder & CEO, Deepinder Goyal.

Goyal says with this service customers can now place orders from even 5 star restaurants, which till now have been outside the purview of home delivery. He adds that Zomato already has a couple of 5 stars on board and is close to signing a few more.

“We have seen overwhelming response and many restaurants have signed up exclusively for Zomato’s service. We will ensure the price of the food you have ordered remains the same and we have already started the service last weekend,” says Goyal.

There will be no one big bang launch of the service, but Zomato plans to add about 500 restaurants a week. The service will be initially launched across 5 cities in India – Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, which will then be extended throughout India.

Goyal says demand for dining out and getting food delivered at home is very high and restaurants are struggling to keep pace. “If we can balance this mismatch by getting more restaurants online and deliver food at home, it would be a significant achievement. At the moment only 40% restaurants deliver food at home. We want to take that number up to 90 %,” says Goyal.
