Zomato Buys Data Firm Maple Graph & Launches as “Zomato Base”

Zomato, among India’s biggest internet companies, has acquired data firm MaplePOS to expand beyond restaurant reviews, into online table reservations and payment, a top executive said on Tuesday.

Online restaurant guide Zomato on Tuesday announced the acquisition of MaplePOS, a cloud-based point of sale product for restaurants developed by a group of techies from Delhi. The amount of deal was not disclosed.

MaplePOS, which is now called Zomato Base has POS system that uses custom hardware for a reliable and customisable product experience , will also enable the parent company to offer restaurants a range of services including cloud-based menu, inventory and recipe management, CRM, analytics, electronic receipts any payment gateway integration.  system that uses custom hardware for a reliable and customisable product experience.

The online food services market is valued at over $14 billion (about Rs 86,600 crore) in India and $371 billion globally and increasingly technology is becoming an integral part of servicing the palette. There is a lot that can be done if we are able to build a technology platform that connects consumers to restaurants and vice versa, and we believe that a world-class cloud-based POS system is the first step towards that,” said Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato.

MapleGraph was founded in 2011 by Arun Tangri, Varun Tangri, and Abhishek Rohilla. Arun Tangri, Co-Founder and CEO, MapleGraph, said: “We are excited to partner with Zomato to realise our dream of building the best and most widely adopted restaurant point of sale system in the world. Technology has seen very little penetration in the restaurant industry, and we are excited to be driving this change at large scale.”
