Global cab giant Uber is known for its experiments. Currently, Uber is looking to launch one of the cheapest cab services, ‘Express Pool’ in India. The operations are in the testing phase and are expected to be launched very soon.
India derives more than 25 percent trips across all the major cities from the ride-sharing feature. Therefore introducing a full-fledged market for pool service in India is seen as a smart move by the US giant.
In an interview with BusinessLine, Prabhjeet Singh, Regional General Manager, Uber India & South Asia, said the company is piloting the feature in India as a part of expanding its lowest cost offerings.
He also revealed that the company is operating in more than 31 cities across India. It will expand in the area whenever it gets feedback from customers to improve a particular service. The company has already intended to deploy more investments in the country.
The fares of Express Pool are expected to be as much as 50 percent cheaper than Uber Pool ride, and up to 75 percent compared to UberX fares.
As far as competition in this segment is concerned, the feature has not been introduced in the country for cabs. Pool service via bus has been offered by many startups including ZipGo, and Shuttle for daily office commute.
According to sources, Indian cab giant Ola is also expected to respond soon by either replicating Uber’s strategy or launching something on similar grounds.
