Bangalore-based Healthzone Organic Foods Pvt. Ltd, which operates mobile health-tech startup Grow Fit, has raised $4.5 million (Rs 29 crore) in a Series A round led by Manipal Education and Medical Group, the private equity arm of the Manipal Group.
The company plans to expand solutions to fertility, joint health, stress management and more, all through the mobile. The venture also plans to integrate different sources of data from wearable technology and medical reports in order to make the app a one-stop, comprehensive companion for wellness.
Grow Fit recently also expanded into the Functional Beverages segment with the acquisition of Drink King.
Launched in September 2015 by Jyotsna Pattabiraman, Grow Fit is trying to address this gap with its health tech platform. It aims to help over 300 Mn Indians who are at risk of contracting lifestyle diseases, with its expert coaching, health foods and behavioral insights.
A Grow Fit survey of 7,500 people – which segmented the data of users by dietary preferences, daily exercise (over 30 mins), goal (lose weight, gain weight or fitness) and gender – showed that 66per cent of people below the age of 40 had a tendency towards obesity. Around 68per cent of the sample were vegetarians and 34per cent showed chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, thyroidism, and diabetes across vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
